Chapter 116

He Has Saved My Soul From Death

The psalmist's vow to pay his vows in the presence of all the people — what shall I render to Adonai? — is answered in Yeshua who gave Himself completely to the Father.

  1. I Love Adonai, He Heard My Cry

A deeply personal testimony: Elohim heard my cry, loosed my chains, and now I love Him with everything.

  2. 1I love YHWH, because he listens to my voice, and my cries for mercy.
  3. 2Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
  4. 3The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow.
  5. 4Then I called on YHWH’s name: “YHWH, I beg you, deliver my soul.”
  6. 5YHWH is gracious and righteous. Yes, our Elohim is merciful.
  7. 6YHWH preserves the simple. I was brought low, and he saved me.
  8. 7Return to your rest, my soul, for YHWH has dealt bountifully with you.
  9. 8For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
  10. 9I will walk before YHWH in the land of the living.
  11. 10I believed, therefore I said, “I was greatly afflicted.”
  12. 11I said in my haste, “All people are liars.”
  13. I Will Lift the Cup of Salvation

The cup of salvation — Yeshua lifted a cup at the Last Supper. This psalm echoes in the upper room.

  14. 12What will I give to YHWH for all his benefits towards me?
  15. 13I will take the cup of salvation, and call on YHWH’s name.
  16. 14I will pay my vows to YHWH, yes, in the presence of all his people.
  17. 15Precious in YHWH’s sight is the death of his saints.
  18. 16YHWH, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your servant girl. You have freed me from my chains.
  19. 17I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on YHWH’s name.
  20. 18I will pay my vows to YHWH, yes, in the presence of all his people,
  21. 19in the courts of YHWH’s house, in the middle of you, Jerusalem. Praise YHWH!
