Chapter 13

How Long, O Adonai? But I Trust You

David's 'How long?' lament turning to trust and praise mirrors Yeshua's Gethsemane agony turning to resurrection joy — the pattern of suffering-to-glory.

  1. How Long, O Adonai?

    Four times David asks 'How long?' — but he ends with singing. Honest lament leads to renewed trust.

  2. 1How long, YHWH? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
  3. 2How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me?
  4. 3Behold, and answer me, YHWH, my Elohim. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;
  5. 4lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him;” lest my adversaries rejoice when I fall.
  6. 5But I trust in your chesed. My heart rejoices in your salvation.
  7. 6I will sing to YHWH, because he has been good to me.
